Eating out Cheaper

7 Apr

Even though I have a blog about frugality, that doesn’t mean I’m perfect when it comes to finances. One of our biggest frugal flops is eating out. It’s almost always cheaper to eat a home cooked meal than going out, but we really enjoy going out occasionally. So instead of completely forgoing it, we’ve learned how to eat cheap when we do go out. So here’s some of the ways we cut back on the restaurant bill:

  • We mostly eat at fast food places and almost never go to steak houses or expensive places like that. Remember that non-fast food is not only more expensive, but you also have to pay for a tip.
  • We rarely get drinks, we just ask for cups of water. This is a great way to save as drinks can be around 1 to 2 bucks a person. And after all we didn’t go there to drink coke, we went there to get food.
  • We love the dollar menu at fast food joints.
  • Go to kid’s eat free places. Gracia is still free at places like Cici’s Pizza. It’ll be a sad day when we have to start paying for her. =(
  • Order one of the cheapest things on the menu.
  • Share food. For a long time we never had to buy a meal for Gracia. I’d just share mine with her.
  • Go out for dessert instead of a full meal.
  • Take leftovers home! One time we got a family meal at Fazoli’s and the leftovers lasted us for another whole meal.
  • Use coupons. We don’t do this very often, but if I see a coupon for a place we eat at I keep it in my purse, just in case.
  • Enjoy it when you eat out, and remember to think of it as a treat.
