Homemade Frozen Pizza

27 Apr

Who’s ready to make some pizza??? That’s what I’m doing today! I’m actually making 4 pizzas then I’m gonna freeze them for later use. I love having some frozen pizzas in my freezer for days that I don’t get around to making anything for supper. I haven’t done the math, but making my own frozen  pizzas is probably cheaper than buying them, especially since I buy some of my ingredients in bulk. And it’s also healthier, since I can control how much salt goes in and I don’t add preservatives.

My sister sent me the crust recipe, she got it from allrecipes.com it’s called Valentino’s Pizza Crust. And she’s the one who told me how you can freeze pizzas…I’m forever grateful to her! =)

Anyways….on with the recipe, here it is (today I doubled it, but this is the original recipe):

Ingredients:

  • 1 cup warm water
  • 1 Tablespoon sugar
  • 2 1/4 teaspoons active dry yeast
  • 3 Tablespoons olive oil
  • 1 teaspoon salt
  • 2 1/2 cups flour

This is supposed to make one pizza. But I have a small oven, so I make it into 2 small pizzas (or 4 today, because I doubled it).

Mix the water, sugar and yeast. Then add the oil and salt.

Stir that into the flour.

Let the dough rest for 10 minutes.

Pat the dough onto a greased pizza pan with a little oil on your fingers.

Now, here’s where you can go one of two ways:

  1. If you’re making the pizza to eat now, put the toppings on and bake for about 15-20 minutes at 425 F.
  2. If you’re freezing it for later, don’t put the toppings on. Bake for about 5 minutes at 425 F.

Once your crust is done, let it cool.

Once cool, put your toppings on (I know my pizza today is pretty boring!).

Then wrap in aluminum foil and freeze.

When you want to eat the pizza take it out and unwrap it. Sprinkle cornmeal on your pizza pan and then bake the pizza on if for 10-20 minutes at 425 F. Now I have pizza for 4 meals in my freezer! Yay!

Frugal Tip: Since this uses big pieces of aluminum foil, clean it off after use and fold it up for the next time you need it.
